Joined by over 600 attendees from across the rail industry, the second Women in Rail Awards took place on Wednesday 15 May 2019 at the stunning and iconic Roundhouse, Camden London.

Opened by Nusrat Ghani MP, Assistant Government Whip and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport and hosted by Rachel Riley, Television Presenter and STEM Ambassador, the Women in Rail Awards celebrate everyone in UK rail, men and women, teams and companies who are working hard to create a more diverse and inclusive work culture in the industry and to unlock the full potential that diversity offers.

Receiving over 360 entries from – and in respect of – a wide range of individuals, teams and companies in the railway sector across nine categories, the calibre of the men, women, teams and companies nominated were exceptional, creating a very difficult task for the judges.

After much deliberation, a shortlist of 38 was announced, with 9 awards presented across 5 individual categories, 4 team and corporate categories, together with a Highly Commended and a Special Mention.

The Judges commented that “It was truly inspirational reading about the achievements and dedication of the nominees. There is a real sense of recognition at all levels across rail that growing diversity in the workforce is how our sector will grow and prosper.”

Women in Rail founder and General Counsel at Angel Trains Adeline Ginn commented: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended the Women in Rail Awards. It was a terrific evening of celebrating, showcasing and rewarding those who have made a significant contribution to improving diversity and gender balance within the UK rail workforce.

“Congratulations to all the winners and those shortlisted, your hard work and dedication to the rail industry promoting female talent and driving forward change and diversity is exceptional.”

The awards received tremendous feedback and were a huge success welcoming guests from across the railway industry joining together to celebrate colleagues, peers, managers, teams and organisations who have been inspirational in pushing forward the gender balance, diversity and inclusion agenda in UK rail in the last few years.

Truly inspirational evening last night; very awe-inspiring. I had a fabulous time” Brenda Ennison , Head of HR, Plasser UK Limited
